You know, Owensboro sure has a lot going on in youth sports. Most of us know all about the Michael Waltrip, Darrell Waltrip, Jeremy Mayfield, and Hayden boys racing successes. Owensboro grows more than just fast drivers. The local, regional, and national spotlight has been shining on Becca Greenwell, OCHS Senior’s recent record breaking feat with 3 point shots. She was trending on Yahoo! for crying out loud. Then our own youth hockey team did the unthinkable and traveled to Canada to play hockey in an International tournament. http://www.messenger-inquirer.com/news/local/image_a9a80e7f-4a61-5a93-9ad1-f78dd6a2d43c.html Then, there’s Luke Stauffer. Luke is the youngest person EVER to make the US National Futsal Team. I know Futsal may not be a household word in Owensboro and soccer and Futsal certainly get NO media coverage, but there are more than 1500 kids that play soccer in Owensboro. It’s very exciting that Luke was chosen to play internationally in a league filled with players older than his 16 years at the time. Luke is continuing to make news by helping SportsTutor U17/18 boys team win the regional championship to qualify for the next level of play in Kansas City. Right behind the successes of the U17/U18 team, the U14 SportsTutor Ligers also qualified to advance. Our youth baseball teams repeatedly make it to championships and continue to impress us with the quality of the play. CheerZone, Johnson’s Dance, and Musick Studios continue to make headlines and achieve success.
We’re excited to be a part of a community that supports it’s youth and it’s youth sports programs. We can’t wait to see what’s going to happen next. Owensboro, Kentucky is a great place to raise a family.
